The phrase, “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket” is very apt when it comes to advertising your business online.
You might have a Facebook or Instagram page and think that’s enough of an online presence for your business. But there are several reasons why having a website that runs alongside your social media presence is better for your business. I’ve run through a few of the biggies below.
Firstly,
not everyone uses social media. My mum, for example, just can’t be bothered with it and she’s too busy knitting to be scrolling. So if she wants to find a business online, she’ll use a search engine and go to a company’s website.
Secondly,
you can get a lot more information on a website about your business, what you do and why people should choose YOU over other companies. You’re also not limited to the structure that social media platforms restrict you to, but can style your website to reflect your brand, making you stand out from the crowd.
Thirdly,
what if your social media platforms crashed, or they started charging extortionate amounts to use their services and held your content to ransom? You’d be a little bit stuck. Not to mention if your account got hacked and you had to start again from scratch.
And finally,
there’s that exciting gem, SEO, which you may have heard of in some context, but aren’t exactly sure what it is. I’ll cover this in more detail another time, but in simple terms, SEO is the process of improving your website and content to increase visibility in search engines.
So if you’ve been putting off creating a website for your business because you don’t think you need one, ponder the above and get in touch if you think now is the time to take that step and want to get the ball rolling.
